BBE

The linear and non-linear relationships between land surface broadband emissivity (BBE) and MODIS seven narrowband albedos and AVHRR channel 1 & 2 reflectances are established individually. The relationships are then used to estimate global land surface 8-day, 1 and 5 km BBE from 1981 through 2010.

The 1 km BBE product was generated from pre-processed MODIS standard reflectance and albedo product (MOD09A1 and MCD43B3). The 500 m MOD09A1 was composited into 1 km to match the spatial resolution of MCD43B3. The 5 km BBE product was generated from 8-day AVHRR reflectance data, which was composited from daily AVHRR reflectance product (LTDR, V3, AVH09). The pre-process includes cloud clearing, spatiotemporal filtering, and gap filling.
